Days 3-5 - Tamarack, Idaho

I spent three days with my high school buddies in Tamarack.  We played golf one day, rafted down the Payette River one day, and did some hiking.

Jack had to fly out Monday morning so I flew him down to Boise, and then flew back to Coski.

Here we are flying south over the stretch of the Payette River we had rafted two days before.  It took us three hours to raft, less than five minutes in the plane.  Of course, speed is not always the objective.

On final back at Boise Terminal Airport.

After dropping Captain Jack off, I flew over the Boise State football stadium and its famous blue turf.

Flying back north, following the Payette again.

Just south of Cascade Lake.  Cascade airport is off to the right.

Overhead Cascade Airport (U70)

Overhead Coski Airport where I kept the plane for three days.  It was the only plane there.  But Coski did have ten or so tiedown spots with chains.

The rest of my high school buddies.  Some things never change.

North of Coski is Payette Lake with McCall Airport on the right.

Over Lake Payette.  Last year I was here -- disgraced myself by flying commercially -- and we cruised around this lake on a pontoon boat.

Turning over Lake Payette.

McCall Airport.  They have a big mountain flying school here.  I'd like to do it someday.

A good look at Tamarack which is sort of a vacation home community.  It has ski slopes & lifts, a great golf course, plus hiking, fishing, frisbee golf course -- lots to do.

A good look at Tamarack which has ski slopes, a golf course, trails, houses and condos.

A little closer.  Tamarack is relatively new.  But when the housing market collapsed, construction stopped and has not resumed.

The ski lift is operational however.

My friend Pete rents a place in the center of the picture; that's where we stayed this long weekend.

The golf course is excellent with great views.

The next morning PK and I were flying to the Sulphur Creek Ranch (ID84) for its famous breakfast.  Sulphur Creek Ranchy was only 39 statue miles from Coski and looked like one of the tamer mountain airstrips.  The ground fog had burned off at Coski but unfortunately it hadn't as we headed east into the mountains.

We circled overhead where Sulphur Creek Ranch airport was supposed to be but it was socked in by ground fog.  Bummer.  At least PK got to see the scenic Idaho mountains from the air.  It was a beautiful morning otherwise.  We ended having a good breakfast in McCall.

Some history on Coski Airport.

The lone plane just prior to takeoff.
