July 17, 2025 - Driving from Alaska to Maryland
Ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles, USA

Today we would be taking the Ferry over to Port Angeles, back in the USA.  The Ferry Ramp was just down the street from the Inn, in the Inner Harbor, across the street from the Parliament Buildings.  We pulled our car into the car area about an hour ahead of time.  A customs officer walked up to the car and checked our passsports, then I had to go to a small building for a further passport check, then we just waited in the car for the ferry to arrive.

And soon enough, there the ferry was.
   
Now onboard the ferry.
   
30 minutes ago this area was filled with vehicles waiting to drive onto the ferry.
   
One last look at the Fairmont Empress Hotel.

And we're underway!  Passing by the float plane terminal.

As we got within a mile or so of Port Angeles we ran into a fog bank.  Visibility was very poor so the ship slowed down.  But then we emerged into the sunlight.
   
They really pack the vehicles in!
   

Gentlemen, start your engines!

We drove off the ferry and had to go through an agricultural checkpoint.  Lynnette told the officer she had a bag of oranges she had bought in Alaska.  The oranges were confiscated.  Lynnette wasn't too happy about that.

And then we were back in the USA.
