AirVenture 2021 - Daily Airshow

It's been four years since I've been to AirVenture and the daily airshow seemed to have changed a little.  In the past, the airshow seemed to be dominated by high-performance stunt planes -- not that there's anything wrong with that.  But there seemed to be a much wider variety of performers this year, along with a lot of warbirds.  And there was enough high performance stunt acts like Michael Goulian and Kevin Coleman to get my aerobatic fix.

Here was an act by a crop duster, something I've never seen before.

Actually there were two of them.

Adam Baker in his Extra 330 with one of the more unusual paintjobs you'll see on an airplane.

From another angle.

It's always thrilling to see a large formation of aircraft approaching at AirVenture.  These are T-6s.

Another big formation of T-34s.  My friend Riggo is flying in this one.

I always enjoy the heritage flights.  This one is two F-18G Prowlers paired with two F4U Corsairs.  Not something you see every day!

Usually heritage flights are fighter types.  This one was kind of neat in that it was a C-47 and a C-130 -- two of the great planes in history.

Skip Stewart goes crazy in his Prometheus Biplane.

The classy Spitfire thunders past.

Now this is truly a memorable sight:  a Spitfire and Hurricane in close formation.

Tora Tora Tora inbound to Pearl Harbor on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941.

The Kate drops a bomb.

An American P-36 Mohawk on the tail of a Zero over Pearl Harbor.

The Sea Eagles of Kido Butai make a final pass.

Another rare sight:  the venerable PBY Catalina flying boat.

A B-17 Flying Fortress passes overhead.

C-47s in bound for a drop over Normandy!

Two classic World War II fighters:  a P-51 Mustang (Quicksilver) and an F4U Corsair.

Kevin Coleman in his Extra 300 SHP does six snap-rolls heading straight down.  Can you do that?  I couldn't do that!

Two F-18G Prowlers on the roll.

The Prowlers in flight.

A heritage flight with the two Prowlers, a T-28 and an F4U Corsair.

An F-18F SuperHornet (also known as the Rhino).  The F model is a two-seater.
